Since the examination stands postponed, the release of the BPSC 72nd Prelims Admit Card has also been deferred. Fresh admit cards containing updated venue details, exam shifts, and instructions will be issued alongside the announcement of the new examination dates.

BPSC 72nd Prelims Exam Pattern 2026

The BPSC 72nd Prelims is a single General Studies paper of the objective, multiple-choice type. The paper carries 150 marks and has a duration of two hours. The Preliminary stage is qualifying in nature – the marks are used only to shortlist candidates for the Mains and are not counted in the final merit. As per the exam scheme, incorrect answers may attract negative marking, so candidates should confirm the exact marking scheme from the official notification.

Selection Process

The selection process for the BPSC 72nd Combined Competitive Examination comprises three consecutive stages designed to comprehensively evaluate the capabilities of the applicants. The first stage is the Preliminary Examination (Pre), which functions purely as a screening test consisting of multiple-choice, objective-type questions. The main objective of the preliminary test is to shortlist the serious contenders for the descriptive test. It is important to note that the scores achieved in the preliminary round are not aggregated into the final merit ranking.

Candidates who successfully clear the cut-off thresholds of the preliminary stage are entitled to appear for the second stage, which is the Main Examination. The Main Exam is a conventional written/descriptive test designed to assess deep academic understanding and analytical articulation. Candidates who obtain the minimum qualifying marks in the mains are then summoned for the final stage, which is the Personality Test or Interview. The ultimate selection list and designation allocations are formulated based on the cumulative scores acquired exclusively in the Main Written Examination and the Personality Test.
