RRB Section Controller CEN No. 03/2026: Exam Pattern / Syllabus

Computer Based Test (CBT)

  • Total Duration: 120 minutes.
  • Total Questions: 100 objective-type questions with multiple choices.
  • Negative Marking: There will be negative marking, with a penalty of 1/3 mark deducted for each wrong answer.
  • Normalization: The CBT will be held in multiple shifts, and a normalized score will be used for shortlisting candidates for the CBAT.

CBT Syllabus

The syllabus for the CBT is divided into three sections:

  1. Analytical and Mathematical Capability:
    • Mathematics: Includes topics like Averages, Percentages, Profit, Loss & Discounts, Time, Speed, Distance, Power & Work, Algebra, Linear Equations, Arithmetic Progression, LCM, HCF, Geometry, Area & Volumes, Probability & Statistics (both basic level).
    • Data Analysis & Interpretation: Includes Multi-source Data Analysis, Examination, analysis and Inference drawing from text, tabular data and data represented graphically (charts, graphs, scatter plot, pie chart, statistical curve distribution, Venn Diagrams), Data Sufficiency, and Data Arrangement.
  2. Logical Capability:
    • Logical Reasoning: Includes Binary Logic, Syllogism, Clocks & Calendars, Assumptions, Blood Relations, Family Tree, and Solving logic-based puzzles.
    • Reading Comprehension: Passages would be given from subjects like History, Society, Literature, Science, Environment, Abstract, Mythology, Technology and Culture. Candidates will need to understand the main idea, supporting idea, application, logical structure, and style of the passage to answer questions.
  3. Mental Reasoning:
    • Analogy: Identifying the relationship between two terms and applying it to another pair.
    • Series Completion: Identifying the pattern in a sequence of numbers and predicting the next term.
    • Solving Coding-Decoding type questions, Solving Ranking and Arrangements based problems.

Section-Wise Question Distribution (Indicative)

  • Analytical and Mathematical Capability: 60 questions
  • Logical Capability: 20 questions
  • Mental Reasoning: 20 questions
  • Total: 100 questions

Computer Based Aptitude Test (CBAT)

  • Shortlisting: Candidates equal to 8 times the number of vacancies will be selected for the CBAT.
  • Qualifying Marks: Candidates must secure a minimum T-Score of 42 in each of the test batteries to qualify. This applies to all candidates, regardless of community or category.
  • Exam Type: This test contains questions and answer options only in English and Hindi.
  • Negative Marking: There will be no negative marking in the CBAT.
  • Merit List: The merit list will be drawn based on the candidates’ performance in both the CBT (70% weightage) and the CBAT (30% weightage).

Document Verification (DV)

  • Candidates will be called for document verification based on the merit list prepared using a 70% weightage for marks obtained in CBT and a 30% weightage for marks obtained in CBAT.
  • In case of a tie in marks, the merit position will be determined by age (the older person is placed higher) and then by the alphabetical order of the name.

Minimum Qualifying Marks

The minimum percentage of qualifying marks for the CBT is as follows:

  • UR (Unreserved) & EWS (Economically Weaker Section): 40%
  • OBC (Non-creamy layer): 30%
  • SC (Scheduled Caste): 30%
  • ST (Scheduled Tribe): 25%

Note: The qualifying percentages for PwBD (Persons with Benchmark Disabilities) candidates are relaxed by 2 marks in case of a shortage of qualified candidates.

  • Your face must be centered and clearly visible.

Mandatory Scanned Documents

  • Candidate Signature:
    • Signature must be on white paper using black ink.
    • Use running/cursive letters, not block letters.
    • File must be a JPG/JPEG between 30 KB and 40 KB.
    • Image dimensions must be 140 x 60 pixels.
  • SC/ST Certificate (for train pass):
    • File must be a PDF no larger than 400 KB.
    • The document must be legible and a valid, recent certificate.
